Bird’s Nest Cookies

Martha Stewart’s Bird’s Nest Cookies

I meant to post this when I made these at Easter time, but life got in the way…

Here we have crumbly, buttery chocolate cookies, spread with whipped ganache:

And topped with coconut and jelly beans to create these springtime treats:

Using the Post’s recipe, I created these stacked gingerbread stars:

And the kids decorated some fun gingerbread shapes too:

Cake recipe from Confetti Cakes for Kids

I made this cake for my son’s 4th birthday party, which had a superhero theme!  He couldn’t decide which superhero he wanted to grace the cake, so I just included all of his favorites…apologies to any Marvel/DC purists.

Peanut-Butter Granola Bars

I subbed in chocolate chips for the dried cranberries and walnuts for the almonds called for in this recipe — there are so many different ways you can customize these!

Banana Snack Cake

A whole-grain kid-friendly treat that serves as a healthyish (is that a word?) snack.

Banana Galette

Martha Stewart’s Banana Galette

This recipe is more of a “shortcut galette” (a free-form pastry), as a tortilla stands in for the pastry crust.  This was very simple to prepare–a good treat to make with and for kids.  My toddler brushed the butter on the tortilla, arranged the bananas atop it, mixed together the brown sugar-butter syrup, and finished the dessert by brushing the syrup on the bananas.  He basically made the whole thing.
