Chocolate Cream Pie

This is a recipe from my grandmother’s vault.  I made this for a Thanksgiving dinner, and this was the only dessert that vanished.  People who reported to like neither desserts nor chocolate said this was the best pie they had ever tasted…and one person even said she wished she could have sat in a closet with that pie and a spoon and eaten it all herself.

This recipe is scaled to two different sizes: a traditional 9″ pie (amounts are in the right column), and a deep-dish pie (amounts are in the left column).  Just go all the way and make the deep-dish.  In either case, pile the pie high with sweetened whipped cream (which is neglected in this written recipe.)
