Orange Almond Cake with Almond Cream Filling and Swiss Meringue Buttercream, adapted from Martha Stewart recipes

I needed to make a cake for a baptism party for my baby niece–isn’t she a cutie??

I presented a few flavor combination ideas to her parents so they could select one for the party.  They made a good choice with this one–it’s a crowd-pleaser, with great flavor, a light crumb and moist layers.  To fit the festivities, I carved and decorated the cake to look like the baby’s gown:
