Prize-Winning Strawberry-Almond Financiers, adapted from a Martha Stewart recipe

So why are these called “prize-winning”?  Because they earned first place in a Valentine’s Day bake off I entered!

What better treat to celebrate Valentine’s Day than miniature heart-bedecked cakes?  These cakes–called financiers–are light, moist, almond teacakes, topped with strawberry puree to create the festive hearts.  For the best hearts, let a bead of puree sit on the surface of the cake for a minute, then drag a toothpick from the edge of the cake, touching just the surface, down through the puree.
